THERE IS A PENSION FILED BY JOHN BURCHETT WHO LIVED IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY,KY WHICH STATES HE ENTERED THE SERVICE IN THE SPRING OF 1779 IN A COMPANY COMMANDED BY CAPT. ANTHONY STREET. HE WAS DISCHARGED AFTER SERVING 3 MONTHS. AND FURTHER STATES HE WAS BORN IN LUNENBURG COUNTY,VA. I 1754 AND DIED IN CLINTON COUNTY, KY MARCH 11,1834. This John is the brother of my William ( Direct Line ) He was born Jan. 1754 and 9 months later his brother, my grandfather x6 was born October 7, 1754. He moved to Clinton County, Kentucky with his brother William Burchett. Their father was Benjamin Burchett b. 1724 d. 1788. I have Benjamin listed with each of his children on tax list. I knew he faught in the war and he stated on his other brother's pension that he was the brother of Robert. John's brothers were Robert, William, Benjamin, Jr., Young. 5 children in all. I have Benjamin's will too. I never could find out about his war record til NOW. I can't believe it. Your Burwell was born 1742. He died in the war from disease 1779 in New Jersey. George Washington's command was in New Jersey at that same time. He was under our first President!!!!!!! Burwell lived 200 miles awat from his father Thomas. I never knew he went by Bent. Very intersting. Burwell also was AWOL. He left his regiment to go back to Dinwiddie and plant his crops for a few weeks and came right back. BURCHETT WAS ONCE SPELLED BUCHER/BOUCHET AND IS FRENCH. THE BURCHETT FAMILY IS BELIEVED TO BE FRENCH HUGUENOT. That would explain why I can't find anything before 1535. I too also believe we were french. Heck it sounds french. The ch is pronounce sh in Indiana. Or the tt is silent with sh. The name is also german too. I have a coat of arms from germany with the name Burchett. In the Burke's it said it came from Little Burchard. I also believe we came from royality. Huguenuts were wealthy in France. I have other names from Chatham but can't find anything to match.
